The pen
Materials, specs, and how it’s built.
The Apex Series I body is machined from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum with a type III hard anodized finish. The clip is 316 stainless steel. The glass breaker tip is tungsten carbide — 9.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Strike the tungsten carbide tip sharply against a corner of the window (not the center). One to two firm strikes is usually sufficient on tempered side or rear windows. Does not work on laminated windshields.
The pen body has no functional lifespan. We back it with a lifetime mechanism warranty: if the bolt action seizes or the clip snaps from a defect, we replace the pen at no charge. The refill runs approximately 6–9 months of daily use.
Refills & ink
What fits, where to find it, and how to change it.
The Apex Series I accepts:
- Fisher Space Pen SPR4 (included) — pressurized, writes upside down, in extreme temps, and in wet conditions
- Schmidt P8126 — German-made, smooth writer
- Parker-style cartridges — widely available at office supply stores
Retract the bolt, then unscrew the pen body at the center join (about 4–5 turns counter-clockwise). The old refill lifts straight out. Drop the new refill in tip-first, then reassemble. Takes under 30 seconds.
Legality & carry
The most common question we get — answered clearly.
Yes. The Apex Series I is a pen. It contains no blade, no prohibited materials, and no components that fall under weapons legislation in the US, UK, EU, Canada, or Australia. It is legal to carry in all 50 US states.
Yes — in carry-on and checked luggage. The TSA classifies it as a writing instrument. In over 2,400 customer purchases we have not received a single report of this pen being flagged or confiscated at any airport worldwide.
Returns & warranty
Simple policy. No hoops.
30-day returns on all orders, no questions asked. Reply to your order confirmation email within 30 days of delivery. We’ll send a prepaid return label and process your refund within 2 business days of receiving the pen back. No restocking fee.
Manufacturing defects: bolt action seizing, clip snapping under normal use, or anodize failing prematurely. Email us with a photo and we’ll send a replacement — no return required, no expiry date. Does not cover cosmetic wear or damage from misuse.
